Happy New Year

My Prayer is that each of you have a blessed, a healthy and happy New Year!!!

Friday, December 30, 2005

I just had to copy and paste this

This is from Pastor Mark Batterson's blog at evotional.com. Look at my previous post and see why. I am not sure if this a God thing or coincidence. All I have to say is....hmmmmmmm!

Universal Theory of Creativity

I came across an interesting equation today referred to as the Universal Theory of Creativity: # of Quality Ideas = Stimuli ÷ Fear

Two things kill creativity.

The first is lack of stimuli. That is brought on my mental atrophy. If we lose that "holy curiosity" we were born with we'll stop thinking creative thoughts. Creative people draw inspire from everyone and everything. They pay attention to the stimuli around them. And they intentionally expose themselves to different disciplines.

Here's an idea. Subscribe to magazines that "have nothing to do with what you're doing". You need to get outside your mental box. I get science and business and design magazines because they are creativity catalysts for messages and marketing. They help me think new thoughts.

The second thing that kills creativity is fear--fear of failure, fear of looking foolish, fear of rejection.

Creativity involves doing something different and that always produces a measure of fear. Don't let fear squeeze you into someone else's mold. Here is one of my definitions of faith: the willingness to look foolish. Don't be afraid to be different.

Creativity and normality are at odds with each other!

Normality is overrated.

WOW!!! What do you think?
I have no fear of failure, I just hate to fail! I am however a risktaker.

I Have An Idea, I Need Your Feedback

I had an idea and I need and value your feedback and opinions, you can email them to me at revivalgeneration@comcast.net or leave me a comment.

As I read so many great blogs by many amazing pastors and churches, I am beginning to realize and understand how valuable and significant they are at not only reaching people already in their churches but even beyond. I also understand how valuable of a ministry blogging can become if used in the right way. Quoting Pastor Mark Batterson, "The greatest Message deserves the greatest marketing." I find it neccessary to reach and connect people to Christ with everything that we have available to us in our world today.

This leads me to an idea that I have, it may not even be orignal and I don't have a every detail thought out to every fine point. After all isn't "everything an experiment." I love to experiment and take risks.

Now to the idea...It is my ultimate dream and goal and passionate desire that God place on my heart to plant a Community of Faith/Church. Would it be possible to plant a church through a blog to begin the marketing of the Community of Faith, to begin gather that community together and then six months to a year later actually launch the physical location of the Community.

Through the blog you can begin to communicate the vision, the values and the beliefs. Also, you can do devotions, Bible studies, and even video sermons and messages. You can start to gather a core together and through the process before the physical plant you can meet with and draw togther individuals and build relationships with them.

I know this may seem to be backwards from the normal way of doing it. But could it work? Could this be a new and creative way to plant a church? How can you build on this and really make it successful? This idea also excites me because of the potential of those who might be reached outside a certain community or location.

Please tell me what you think, I value your opinions both good and bad. This has been in my thoughts for about a week now. I am trying to be creative to take that next step for my dreams to become reality. Right now things seem to on hold and in limbo as I wait. I am trying to be forward looking and test and experiment ideas. Again, my theme right now is, hurry up and wait.

I Love Christmas - Great Gifts

Every since I was a wee (that is right, I said wee) child. I have always enjoyed and loved Christmas. As a Christian have much more of an appreciation and understanding of what Christmas is all about. I do however enjoy the hoopla of Christmas, the gifts (giving and receiving), the carols, the frantic times of shopping (I did finish way to early this year), great classic Christmas movies (It's A Wonderful Life, 24 hours of the Christmas Story, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and even Home Alone the original), the decorations, and of course all the food and candy.
As I set back and reflect about all my favorite, most worthwhile gifts I received for Christmas, not too many come to mind, I remember as a kid getting a cool bike, Stars Wars stuff, a bowling ball and money. All my greatest gifts that I have gotten of all time came a different times in my life. Here is a list of those special gifts. By the way, why does everyone like doing lists?

1. My Salvation in Jesus - This is numero uno, wow I don't even speak spanish. In this one gift, I have the gift of grace, mercy, God's leading and guidance, forgiveness, unconditional love. I can go on and on here. My Faith means so much to me...I would die for it, no one can take this gift from me.

2. My wife - I am thankful for my amazing wife. She is definitly my help mate, I would not want to go through life with anyone else. I am thankful for the gift of my wife.

3. My Dad and Step-mom - Two awesome parents. I love them dearly. They helped form me to the person I am today. My step-mom took me in when my real mom didn't want me. I owe my parents such a debt of gratitude. I was a horrible teenager, I know I caused all the grey hairs on their head s and all the stomach ulcers. my parents are truly a gift.

4. Mike Colon - He was once my youth pastor and now he and his wife are our best friends. Mike is my "fresh". It is because his obedience and servant heart that I am saved today. He showed what Christ love was all about. He prayed for me and he allowed me to sit in office and breakdown on his couch a few times as a teenager. I was the only youth who has ever tried to beat him up. Mike is my bud, my brother and my firend. What a wonderful gift in my life.

5. My Mentors -Mike Colon is definitly a mentor, he help influence me into ministry. I also had the gift to work with two amazing pastors, Tim Cerce and Mike Buckley. I thank God for these two godly men and their families. Both of these guys have taught me so much about ministry, but beyond that how to be a man of God who so happens to be a pastor. These two men have amazing integrity and character. I am thankful for their individual contributions into my life and ministry. One thing sticks out though, Tim really challenged me to grow in my reading...ever since I have been an addictive reader. Thanks to these two men for the gifts they invested into my life. I will make sure your legacies live through me a s a pastor and as man of God.

6. Friends - Wow, I have the most amazing friends. Friends are truly a special gift from God. My closest friends are of course Mike and Sonja Colon, Mike and Debby Madden, and Bill and Elizabeth Fields. These couples are ones we share personal and intimate details with...it is hard to find great people you can trust and rely on.

7. My "kids" - No we don't have children of our own, but we have a group of "kids" who are like our own. These are are former youth and young adults. There are so many of them Brett, Annie, Christie, Dave, Carrie, Rusty, Shawna, Pierre, Lauren, Stephanie, Nassim, The Chavez Boys, Jimmy, David, Sheri, Ray, Katie, Ben, Hillary, Ashley, and I can go and on. I have been blessed with a gift to invest and influence many young lives, and I don't take that for granted.

8. The doggies - Pebbles and Bam Bam have brought joy into our lives. To us they are definitly like children.

9. Ministry - I am so thankful for the gift of ministry. To me I feel I am pursuing what God has called me to do. He has used me and continues to use me in many amazing and great ways. I am so humbled to have this gift. I also feel very privledged to have the gift and calling of ministry. I know God has greater things for me still to come. I want to take advantage of every opportunity, every challenge, every step He gives me.

10. I wouldn't have any of this if it wasn't for God who sent His One and Only Son, the one we celebrate His birth on Sunday. If I don't get a single material gift for Christmas, I have been giving the greatest gifts of my life, I have given gifts that I will always cherish and appreciate.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone let us celebrate Jesus and the gifts that He has already lavished on us.

Love you all!!!

Chris

Day off today

I had my first day off in about three weeks today. You know what I did? I drove up to Northern Virginia, my favorite place to hang. I actually took a Christmas up to my wife who is working in her office in Alexandria for a couple of days. She was meeting a former co-worker/friend for dinner and forgot to take the gift from home with her. So, me being to great husband that I am drove two hours to take it to her and to also have lunch with her as well. We had Perfect Pita...it is a litlle whole in the wall place in Old Town Alexandria, but the food is really good, they have great pitas and amazing hummus. We went back to her office to eat. It was lots of fun. By the way I really love my wife and enjoy spending time with her. I also hate when she goes away. She left yesterday morning and comes back home tomorrow afternoon. Anyways, I am going to go and have some coffee at a local coffee shop Chester Perk...think about "Friends" Central Perk. This place is really cool, they have great decor and really good coffee.

Into Music - Music Recommendation for the week of 12/18/05 - 12/24/05

Those who know me...know that I am really into music. If I wasn't in ministry, I would certainly be in the music industry, of course not as a musician or a singer, but perhaps a manager, producer, tech guy whatever. I really dig music, especially great music. Each week I will give my top five recommendation of artist's Cds/downloads you must have. Of course, this is all my opinions of what I enjoy personally. Currently, I have over 2000 CDs in my collection, I have downloaded about 1400 songs, 111 albums into my iPod (this is a tedious task, especially when you don't have too much time). Here are my first five recommendation to check out, get the Cds, download the music or just check out their sites.

1. Jeremy Hopkins - Independent artist from Connecticut; former member of the band Water's Edge a student from Valley Forge Christian College. He has an amazing acoustic sound. You can order his album from is website www.JeremyHopkins.com or download his music from his My Space. Give him a listen. He will be big one day. If you have a coffeehouse or planning to open up one in February, he would be great guy to have perform.

2. Jonathan Chevalley - Another independent artist, Jon is form the Northern Virginia area. His music is passionate, raw and worshipful. He is a great guitarist. I have known Jon personally for many years and he is a awesome guy with a heart of worship. He has just recently been to the Middle East serving in the Army and lead worship in their chapel services. Check out his site www.JonChevalley.com.

3. David Crowder Band - Simply put one of the greatest diverse bands out there. They have such a creative and unique sound. You can not compare them to anyone else. They are personally my favorite band, well after my all-time favorite U2. To me they set the standard for great music, lyrics, and even vocally, for Christian and mainstream music. This was my first downloads into my iPod. I listen to the album A Collision atleast twice a week. You must check them out if you have listened to them you are missing out on a great band. www.DavidCrowderBand.com

4. Derek Webb - Derek is a former member of the group Caedmon's Call. Great acoustic sound but his lyrics is what really sticks out for me. He is challenging and thought provoking. His House Show album is as good for what he shares from his heart just as much for the music that he plays. He must check him out. www.DerekWebb.com

5. Shane and Shane -Again two guys who have amazing lyrics, they are modern-day Psalmists. Not only do the create great songs, but they harmonize so well together, I don't believe there is another sound like Shane & Shane. They will totally blow you away with their incredible sound. You can even worship along with them. Their live album which comes with a DVD of their live show is incredible it is called An Evening with Shane and Shane. Check them out you will be glad that you did, especially if you like good acoutic based music, awesome lyrics and great harmonizing vocals. They are among my iPod most played. www.ShaneandShane.com

I encourage you to check all these artists out. They create great music and I believe you will enjoy their unique and honest sounds. Good listening and if you have any questions about any artists that you aren't sure about, please ask me and I will help you out as much as I can.

It has been awhile :-)

Hey everyone, it is both nice and wierd to actually have some down time. I apologize for not updating in awhile. One of my new year's resolutions is to keep update more frequently.

Over the last three weeks I have been super busy, it has actually been kind of a rush. There is something about being really busy that gets my adrenaline going. I have been helping out at the bookstore Family Christian Stores where I have been a faithful employee for 91/2 years. The store needed some help during the Christmas season as well as going through a manger transition. I get so pumped working with the guests and ringing people up. I love making money and putting my customer service to use (I need to stop telling my wife merry Christmas, have a great day, God bless and we will see you soon) I am not kidding! :-) I am very competitive with the other employees by comparing what I make in a shift compared to them. Saturday, I did $2,000 in four hours!

Another thing I have been doing as of late is diving into more multimedia, technology stuff. I was asked a question by a pastor recently, if I knew a lot or worked with video editing. So, I was challenge to start doing more of that. I bought a software package, external memory drive, and a DVD recorder drive. So, needless to say I have been messing around and trying to grow in that area. I take things as a challenge when they are presented to me. I really want my ministry to be well rounded and anything I can do to have my dreams become reality, I will do.

Speaking of dreams becoming reality, I was recently asked a question (by a person who was trying to sell me his plan) how much would I pay to see my dreams come true. I don't think I could put a price on that. I keep thinking if I won the lottery (by the way I don't play it, so I can't win it) I wouldn't retire and step out of ministry. I would use the money to build an upscale coffeehouse church and be the lead pastor. I would invest everything into that dream. How much would you pay to make your dreams come true? I know one thing I will never sell out my faith, integrity and character. Without those three things my dreams would mean nothing. I also would give up my sense of humor...that is important too.

One final note, Christmas is this Sunday. I am sure you all knew that. This is truly my favorite time of year. Let us keep in perspective what this time is all about. This is the time we celebrate and honor our Savior's birth. Jesus thank you for stepping out of Heaven and coming to this crazy world and showing us the way to live and giving up your life for our redemption. I love you Jesus...you are amazing! Happy Birthday!!!
